He has charmed Elton John, angered Paul McCartney – and horrified Yoko Ono.  Now he has written, with Eric Clapton's approval, the warts and all biography of the legendary guitarist.

Philip Norman is an English author, novelist, journalist and playwright. He is best known for his critically acclaimed biographies of the Beatles (Shout!), the Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly and Elton John.

Philp became a correspondent for The Sunday Times in the late 1960s, aged just twenty-two. During this period he was involved in investigative journalism on the Beatles. He has been a regular contributor to the Times and Sunday Times ever since. His journalism ranges from profiles of Elizabeth Taylor and P. G. Wodehouse, to Colonel Gaddafi and Tony Blair.

His first book,Shout!: The Beatles in Their Generation, was published in 1981. It was an immediate bestseller and has since sold over 1 million copies. The New York Times described Shout! as "the definitive biography [of the Beatles] – comprehensive, intelligent, sensitively written and exhaustively researched".

Philp Norman has also published definitive biographies of Buddy Holly, the Rolling Stones, Elton John and most recently Eric Clapton.

Philip will be in conversation with Club Director Fernando Peire.
