VERDI’S FALSTAFF – Insights and highlights
    6.30pm for 7pm start
    The Loft

Christopher Luscombe has enjoyed a distinguished and varied career in both theatre and film, including a fine production of The Rocky Horror show that has toured for 13 years and which will be touring the UK throughout 2019.

Christopher has directed private theatrical events for the Royal Family, most recently for Prince Charles’ 70th birthday party at St James’ Palace.  His showNell Gwynn won an Olivier Award.

Christopher will be directing Verdi's Falstaff for The Grange Festival this summer, having previously directed the play for the Globe Theatre, so his insights on directing the opera for the first time will no doubt be fascinating

Verdi’s final opera is a comedy inspired by Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor.  It tells the story of the lecherous old rascal Falstaff’s attempt to woo a wealthy married woman, and it is admired for its complex orchestration, comic fugues and riotous ensembles.

Christopher will be joined by two highly respected opera singers who will be discussing and singing excerpts from this classic comic opera.

Susan Bickley frequently appears at the Royal Opera House and has won the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Singer Award, the highest recognition for live classical music in the UK.  Robert Hayward is an established bass baritone and will star in the role of Falstaff at The Grange Festival this summer.

Talk and performance plus dinner in The Drawing Room before or after the event £45
    Talk and performance only £25
