DONIZETTI’S LA FILLE DU REGIMENT – Insights and highlights

Soprano He Wu with Harry Sever

    6.30pm for 7pm start
    The Loft

Donizetti’s sparkling comic opera has been a favourite in the repertoire since its successful Paris premiere in 1840. It requires virtuosic singing with la great many high notes

    and some show-stopping arias.

Marie was found on a battlefield as a baby, and raised by the entire 21st Regiment as their 'daughter'. She is expected to marry a soldier from the Regiment but when she falls for someone else it looks as though she may have to choose between her family and true love.  Expect a vocal fireworks display!

Prize winning soprano He Wu was a child star in China. This year she received a prestigious award for services to UK Chinese relations in the field of music. Since her opera training in London at the Royal College of Music, Guildhall and National Opera Studio supported by the Royal Opera House, she has performed with San Francisco Opera, English National Opera and Longborough Festival Opera, among others. She is in demand on the concert platform and has performed as soloist with the Wiener Symphoniker, the London Symphony Orchestra and recently starred with Joseph Calleja at the Royal Festival Hall.

He Wu will be accompanied by Harry Sever, a multi-talented young conductor, composer and pianist. As an opera coach/accompanist he has worked with numerous top singers from the Royal Opera House and ENO, including Renee Fleming.

Talk and performance plus dinner in The Drawing Room before or after the event £45
    Talk and performance only £25.
